The Paradox of Our Age
We have bigger houses but smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense;
More knowledge, bus less judgment;
More experts, but more problems;
More medicines, but less healthiness;
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We built more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communications;
We have become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are times of fast foods, but slow digestion;
Tall man, but short character;
Steep profits, but shallow relationships.
It is time when there is much in the window, but nothing in the room.

~ H.H. the 14th Dalai Lama

Agnes Shumba.  MISSION

GUIDING VALUES

The values Mama Makeka House of Hope shares are founded on the notion of Sharing Covenant Relationships. MMH Hope seeks to move toward initiating sharing relationships with already existing community based organizations and institutions which explicitly recognize the premise that it is together with others that we can best carry out our mission and vision in the world. In this way there will still be giving and receiving in the relationship, and all parties will be changed and transformed in the process; but more importantly, the partner will no longer be the target, and the relationship will not be seen just as a contract to accomplish a task that focuses on the context of one of the partner organizations or institutions. Specifically, MMH Hope shall be guided by an ethos founded on integrity, leadership, innovation, research and scholarship.
